The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the prominent use of high-quality timbers such as mahogany.

These instruments typically feature solid mahogany or veneered carcases, brass scales, ivory or bone verniers and adjustment keys, and glass tubes containing liquid mercury.

Authenticity is indicated by period-appropriate hand-engraved brass or silvered scales, maker signatures, old crown glass, and traditional cabinet-making joinery without modern fixings.

This piece works well mounted on panelled walls in studies, hallways, or libraries, pairing effectively with classic dark wood furniture and traditional decor schemes.

Keep the instrument away from direct sunlight and dramatic temperature fluctuations, and consult a specialist conservator if the mercury column requires maintenance or transport.
