Description

A stylish and extremely well made Art Deco sycamore chest of drawers by Hille. This was made in England, it dates from the 1920’s.

The quality is fantastic, this is a very useful and slim size with plenty of storage space in the many drawers. The handles are beautifully designed with a double helix motif, they all run smoothly and have fine, hand cut dovetailed joints. The sycamore colour tones and grain patterns are gorgeous, this has lovely walnut banding on the edges which gives a lovely contrast.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is excellent throughout.

We also have the matching dressing table and pair of bedside cabinets that came with this, seen listed under our other items for sale.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco design, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and the use of luxurious materials such as exotic veneers and polished metals.

These pieces typically feature solid timber frames covered in high-end veneers like sycamore, walnut, or mahogany, often combined with traditional dovetail joinery and matching central wooden or bakelite handles.

Authentic period pieces display period-correct construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails, genuine wood veneers over secondary timbers, maker marks or stamps, and appropriate age-related wear to the finish.

An Art Deco chest of drawers serves as a striking statement piece in a modern bedroom or hallway, pairing well with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and metallic accents that echo its geometric symmetry.

Preserve the finish by keeping the piece out of direct sunlight, avoiding excessive moisture or heat, and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to protect the delicate wood veneer.
