An okimono is a traditional Japanese decorative figurine typically displayed in an alcove, with Meiji period examples being celebrated for their exceptional metallurgical skill and intricate detailing.

These pieces are typically cast using traditional lost-wax methods, often featuring hand-finished patination and finely chiselled surface details executed by skilled metalworkers.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the natural patination, weight, casting quality, and the presence of artist signatures or workshop marks usually found on the underside or reverse.

Display the sculpture as a focal point on a credenza, mantelpiece, or enclosed bookcase, allowing neutral lighting to highlight the rich patination and texture of the metal.

Maintain the surface by dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth; avoid using chemical cleaners or polishes that can strip the historic patina.
