Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901), characterised by eclectic revivals of historical styles, exceptional joinery, and a heavy reliance on dark, rich timbers like mahogany and walnut.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods and veneers, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, solid timber backs, and often incorporated brass locks and turned wooden knobs.

Authenticity is identified through period-correct construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage patterns, patination, and makers marks or stamps on locks and hardware.

Pair the rich dark timber with neutral walls and minimalist modern surroundings to create a focal point, or use it within a traditional study to store small objects, stationery, or collections.

Maintain antique timber by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent warping, and nourish the wood periodically using traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
