Watercolour painting involves using water-soluble pigments suspended in a solution, typically applied to specialised paper to create translucent layers of colour and light effects.

Traditional framing often incorporates gilt wood moulding, acid-free mounts, and glass protection to preserve the delicate paper and pigments from environmental damage.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the paper stock for watermark indicators, inspecting pigment degradation, verifying artist signatures, and checking for period-appropriate framing techniques.

Such pieces function effectively as focal points on neutral walls, paired with subtle picture lighting to highlight the intricate details without overwhelming contemporary spaces.

Watercolour works must be kept away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent paper degradation and fading of the pigments.
