Animalier art, focusing on the realistic depiction of animals, gained immense popularity in nineteenth-century Europe, particularly in France, where master sculptors cast lifelike figures in bronze.

These pieces were typically produced using the lost-wax method or sand casting, utilising copper alloys to create durable sculptures that were subsequently finished with hand-applied chemical patinas.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the depth and quality of the patination, tool marks from chasing, casting seams, foundry stamps, and the natural wear consistent with age.

Such pieces serve as focal points when placed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or executive desks, contrasting effectively against minimalist surfaces or warm wood finishes.

Bronze should be kept away from direct moisture and humidity, dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth, and occasionally treated with microcrystalline wax to protect the historic patina.
