FAQs

Late 19th-century British watercolours often focused on genre scenes, literary subjects, and detailed interior narratives, showcasing refined brushwork and pigment layering characteristic of the Victorian era.

These works typically utilised high-rag watercolour paper, gum arabic binders, and ground mineral or organic pigments applied with fine sable or hog-hair brushes.

Authenticity is assessed through paper ageing, watermark analysis, period-appropriate pigments, artist signatures, and framing construction consistent with late Victorian mounting techniques.

Pairing historical art with clean, minimalist framing and neutral wall backdrops allows the narrative depth of the piece to stand out without overwhelming modern spaces.

To prevent fading and paper degradation, keep watercolours away from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity levels, and ensure archival, acid-free framing.
