Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901) and is characterised by a revival of historicism, robustness, and rich dark timbers such as mahogany and walnut, reflecting the industrial manufacturing advancements and growing prosperity of the era.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid timber frames with rich mahogany veneers applied to secondary woods like pine or oak. Construction features often include hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes and turned wooden drawer pulls.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as hand-cut dovetailing, minor shrinkage cracks in the timber, handmade screws or nails where applicable, and natural patination and oxidisation on the wood surfaces.

An antique mahogany chest of drawers adds grounding warmth and historical texture to contemporary spaces. It can be paired with minimalist abstract art or modern ceramics to create a striking contrast between old and new.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent the wood and veneer from drying out and cracking. Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and occasionally apply a quality beeswax to nourish the finish.
