An aneroid barometer is a device for measuring atmospheric pressure without the use of liquid, operating on the principle of a flexible metal box that expands or contracts with pressure changes.

Victorian barometers typically feature turned timber cases made from oak, mahogany, or walnut, combined with brass bezels, glass dials, and intricate paper or enamel scale faces.

Authentic pieces often exhibit period-specific typography, hand-engraved or printed paper dials, heavy brass fittings, and traditional wood-turning techniques characteristic of nineteenth-century craftsmanship.

A vintage barometer can be mounted on a feature wall in a study, hallway, or living room to add historical texture, serving as a focal point amongst framed art or alongside traditional bookshelves.

Preservation involves keeping the instrument away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and excessive moisture, while occasionally dusting the wooden case with a soft, dry cloth.
