This is a watercolour landscape painting by Hirst Walker RBA from the 1900 period, executed in a Modern British style with a muted blue colour palette. The composition presents a coastal landscape featuring a mountain silhouette beneath an atmospheric sunset wash, capturing a loch at sunset in the Hebrides. The artwork is housed within a frame and has a cleaned, very good, ready to hang condition, complete with a signature and provenance from the artist's estate. The framed piece measures 77 cm wide, 66 cm high, and 5 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this painting suits placement above a sideboard, adding character to a highland hunting lodge style interior. The watercolours on paper medium brings a serene visual quality to living spaces, studies, or dining rooms. The artwork integrates smoothly into traditional and transitional rooms, offering collectors an authentic Staithes Group piece with documented heritage.

Early 20th-century British watercolour landscapes are recognised for atmospheric light washes, tonal subtlety, and stylized natural forms influenced by Post-Impressionism and modern art movements.

Traditional watercolours utilize water-soluble pigments applied to heavy cotton or rag paper, often framed behind glass to prevent environmental degradation.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand signatures, artist initials indicating societal memberships, natural paper aging, and period-appropriate mounting materials.

Display the artwork framed with a clean, neutral mount above a mantelpiece or sideboard to integrate historical subject matter into modern colour schemes.

Store and display watercolours away from direct sunlight, maintain stable relative humidity, and ensure non-acidic mounting boards are used to avoid foxing.
