FAQs

Nineteenth-century landscape painting frequently focused on romanticised natural scenery, dramatic lighting, and classical composition inspired by European travels and picturesque ideals.

Artists during this period commonly utilised oil paints applied to prepared wood panels or stretched canvas, often housed within heavily moulded, gilt plaster frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the ageing of the wood or canvas support, pigment composition, craquelure patterns in the oil layer, and period-appropriate framing techniques.

Positioning the piece as a focal point on a neutral wall or above a traditional mantelpiece creates a sophisticated balance between historic character and contemporary minimalism.

Preservation requires maintaining stable temperature and humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and keeping the surface clean from dust using a soft, dry brush.
