FAQs

Early 20th century watercolour landscapes often capture natural topography with loose brushwork, transparent washes, and a focus on atmospheric lighting, reflecting traditional regional painting techniques.

Traditional pieces utilised handmade rag paper, water-soluble pigments bound with gum arabic, and were frequently framed with wooden mouldings and protective glass.

Authenticity is typically assessed by examining paper ageing, watermark identifiers, signature styles, pigment composition under magnification, and framing materials consistent with the stated period.

Pairing traditional paintings with clean, contemporary walls allows the historical narrative to stand out, often using neutral framing or gallery walls to create balanced visual depth.

Watercolours require framing behind UV-protective glass and placement away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent pigment fading and paper degradation.
