A Shojo is a mythical spirit or sprite from Japanese folklore, traditionally depicted as a red-haired creature fond of sake and often referenced in Noh theatre and traditional art.

Artisans of the Meiji and Taisho eras primarily utilised lost-wax casting, often enhancing the surface with patination techniques, inlay, or subtle gilding to achieve tonal depth and texture.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit precise hand-chased detailing, naturalistic age-related patination, and frequently bear cast or engraved artist signatures or workshop seals on the base.

Such sculptural pieces serve as focal points when placed on low sideboards, desks, or open shelving, allowing the metallic textures and historical form to contrast against minimalist backdrops.

Antique bronze should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth. Chemical polishes must be avoided to preserve the historical patina and protective surface oxidisation layer.
