Unusual 17th century style Art Deco period pewter wassail bowl by Travis Wilson & Co. of Sheffield. Hand made hammered pewter decorated with concentric bands on a raised circular moulded base. Identical design to a 17th century wooden Wassail bowl. Never seen one like it before in pewter. I think the marks to the base date this to 1928.

Art Deco pewter wassail bowls emerged during the 1920s and 1930s, blending traditional British drinking vessel forms with modern geometric styling and streamlined motifs.

These items are typically cast or spun from an alloy of tin alloyed with copper, antimony, and bismuth, frequently featuring hand-hammered surfaces and polished accents.

Authenticity is determined by makers marks, hallmarks on the base, weight, metal composition testing, and characteristic manufacturing tool marks such as hand-hammering.

A pewter bowl works well as a centrepiece on a dining table or sideboard, providing a metallic contrast against natural wood or stone surfaces.

Pewter should be cleaned using warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can strip the natural oxidisation and historical patina.
