Description

A large and impressive antique mahogany chest of drawers. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1900-1910 period.

It is of superb quality, this sits on bracket feet, has canted front edges and a grooved edge to the solid mahogany top. The generous drawers have beautifully intricate brass handles and fine, handcut dovetailed joints. The mahogany has acquired a gorgeous patina and colour tone over the years.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian furniture style, prominent during the 18th and early 19th centuries, is characterised by classical proportions, symmetrical design, and the extensive use of imported mahogany timber.

Authentic period pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, solid secondary woods such as oak or pine for drawer linings, and pegged frame joinery.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut dovetails, tool marks, consistent timber shrinkage, natural oxidation of the wood, and period-appropriate brass hardware.

Pair the traditional wood tones with minimalist decor, modern abstract art, or neutral walls to create a balanced interior that highlights the historical craftsmanship.

Maintain antique wooden furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and periodically applying a microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the finish.
