An aneroid barometer measures atmospheric pressure using a small, flexible metal box called an aneroid cell, without using liquid mercury. They were invented in the mid-19th century during the Victorian era, becoming widely popular for domestic weather forecasting.

These instruments typically featured carved wooden cases made from walnut, oak, or mahogany, paired with brass bezels, paper or porcelain dial faces, and glass protective covers. Internal components incorporated precision metals like brass and steel.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate hand-carved woodwork, traditional typography on the dial, hand-blown or early rolled glass, and mechanical brass movements showing genuine signs of age and patina rather than modern fasteners.

An antique wall barometer serves as a striking focal point when hung on a panelled wall, in a traditional study, or paired alongside a collection of vintage scientific instruments or artwork to add historical texture.

Keep the instrument away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and high humidity to protect the wood finish and paper dial. The mechanism should be handled with care and professionally serviced if calibration is required.
