Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The American Federal style emerged following the American Revolution, spanning roughly from 1780 to 1830. It draws heavily on neoclassical design principles, featuring clean lines, symmetrical proportions, and classical motifs inspired by ancient Rome and Greece.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised native timbers such as maple, cherry, and mahogany, often incorporating fine veneers and secondary woods like pine or tulip poplar for structural components. Brass hardware and turned wooden elements were also commonplace.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery, such as hand-cut dovetails and pegged mortise and tenon joints. The timber often shows natural ageing, oxidation, and tool marks consistent with hand-tool woodworking techniques of the early nineteenth century.

Pairing historic wooden beds with neutral textiles, crisp white linens, and modern lighting creates a balanced scheme. The natural warmth of the timber adds texture and historical grounding to minimalist or transitional bedrooms.

Keep wooden furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the timber from drying out and cracking. Maintain a stable indoor humidity level and clean surfaces periodically with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes.
