A large and impressive antique mahogany chest of drawers. This was made in England, it dates from around the 1900-1910 period.

It is of superb quality, this sits on bracket feet, has canted front edges and a grooved edge to the solid mahogany top. The generous drawers have beautifully intricate brass handles and fine, handcut dovetailed joints. The mahogany has acquired a gorgeous patina and colour tone over the years.

We have had this re-polished, it is in excellent condition with some minor signs of old wear beneath the polish here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Georgian furniture spans the reigns of the first four British kings named George, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the gradual shift from heavier walnut to refined mahogany.

Traditional pieces typically feature solid timbers like mahogany or oak, often constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes and secondary softwoods for internal linings.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-cut dovetailing, irregular timber shrinkage, period-correct brass hardware, and the presence of tool marks consistent with historical manufacturing techniques.

Pairing a dark wood antique chest with minimalist decor, neutral walls, and modern lighting creates a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Preserve the wood by avoiding direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, applying natural beeswax periodically, and dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth.
