This large ecclesiastical plaster statue of a saint dates from the 1920 period and belongs to the Victorian and Gothic style. The moulded plaster figure stands upon an integral square plinth base and displays a distressed, patinated brown surface with beige undertones, showing visible wear and flaking across the drapery. The saint wears voluminous flowing drapery with deep folds, holding an expressive gesture with one hand raised towards the chest and the other clutching a fold of fabric at the waist, while the head tilts upward with upturned eyes and curled hair. The sculpture stands 150 cm high, 55 cm wide, and 45 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this freestanding sculpture works well placed directly on the floor in an empty corner of a hallway, living room, or study, adding sculptural weight and period character to the space. The sturdy construction provides structural stability for interior display without requiring wall mounting or additional support.

Ecclesiastical plaster statues became widely produced during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to furnish churches and private chapels with detailed religious iconography.

These figures were cast using plaster of Paris or gesso over internal wooden or wire armatures, often finished with paint, gilding, or patinated washes.

Authentic period examples display natural surface wear, visible seam lines from original moulds, aged patination within draped folds, and weight consistent with dense casting material.

Large figures function as dramatic sculptural focal points when set against neutral backdrops in entryways, placed within alcoves, or positioned in empty corners.

Dust gently using a soft dry brush or dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water or chemical cleaning agents that could dissolve plaster or strip historic patination.
