This oil painting on canvas by Gudrun Sibbons dates from the 1960 period and follows a Dutch Revival style. The composition depicts a river landscape at sunset with a pastoral scene containing working horses, figures by the water, and birds, signed at the lower right. The wide, ornate wooden and plaster frame exhibits a swept form with elaborate foliate carving, corner scrollwork, and a warm gold finish. It measures 34 cm high, 52 cm wide, and 7 cm deep in total. Suitable for an English Country House interior, this artwork functions well as a decorative focal point placed above a sideboard in a living room, dining room, or hallway. The warm golden tones of the painted sky and heavy decorative framing provide a traditional aesthetic that integrates easily with classic interior schemes.

FAQs

These works draw heavy inspiration from 17th-century Dutch Master paintings, featuring atmospheric lighting, expansive skies, and detailed depictions of rural or river scenes.

Traditional oil paintings consist of oil-based pigments applied to canvas or wood panel, presented inside moulded wood or plaster swept frames with gilded finishes.

Authentic works feature visible paint texture, artist signatures in oil medium, age-related craquelure, and period-appropriate stretcher bars or framing hardware on the reverse.

Position the artwork centrally above a sideboard or fireplace mantel to create a clear focal point, balancing traditional artwork with contemporary furniture.

Keep the painting away from direct sunlight, dampness, and heat sources, dusting gently with a soft dry brush while avoiding water or liquid cleaners on the paint and gilding.
