FAQs

Bronze animal sculptures gained immense popularity during the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in France and Britain, where master founders utilised the lost-wax casting technique to capture realistic anatomical details of sporting and domestic animals.

Traditional animal sculptures were crafted using bronze via the lost-wax (cire perdue) casting method, often mounted on heavy bases made of marble, slate, or onyx to provide stability and a contrasting visual texture.

Authentication involves examining the casting quality, looking for foundry marks or artist signatures, checking the natural patination and oxidisation of the metal, and inspecting the base for period-appropriate construction methods and wear.

These sculptures serve as sophisticated focal points when placed on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or executive office desks, contrasting effectively against minimalist backgrounds or paired with rich timber and leather furnishings.

Preservation requires dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally applying a microcrystalline wax to protect the metals patina from moisture and humidity; avoid using chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes.
