Description

Recently acquired from a country house in the south of England, this pretty Mahal carpet ticks many boxes. It has soft colours and a restrained repeat floral design in the main field composed of palmettes and flowering tendrils. The slightly angular drawing of the motifs gives the design an additional rustic charm. The sapphire blue main border is also filled with palmettes and meandering vines, complementing the field design perfectly. By repute, this decorative little carpet had been in the same house for well over 50 years and now shows appealing signs of wear commensurate with its age. We have cleaned it in our workshop, but have avoided over restoration in order to retain the individual character of this charming carpet.
