Sir Edmund Elton English Sunflower Studio Pottery Jug, Circa 1890

This rare art pottery jug was made at the sunflower pottery studio at Clevedon Court, Somerset, England circa 1890.

He produced these exotic wares in very small numbers as individual works of art which were then retailed at high class shops and stores in England and America at exclusively high prices. This pleasing and rare example is a stylised jug which has a separate short spout. The body has a tapering bulbous form with a narrow neck which flares into a shaped open top for filling with a separate spout and handle. The thick marbleized glaze has a crackle finish in a variety of blended colours including blue, green, brown and orange. This interesting jug is further decorated with a trailing stem of flowers and leaves and on its underside, it is fully signed by the aristocratic potter Elton.
