Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bentwood hall stands originated in the mid-nineteenth century, pioneered largely by Michael Thonet in Austria. The design utilised a revolutionary steam-bending technique to craft fluid, lightweight wooden furniture, becoming an essential fixture in Victorian and Edwardian entryways.

These items were manufactured by steaming solid beechwood rods until pliable, then bending them into precise metal moulds to dry. Once set, the curved components were bolted together to form structural uprights, coat hooks, and umbrella retainers.

Authentic pieces often feature maker paper labels or impressed stamps beneath the base, such as Thonet or Fischel. Look for original recessed iron screws, hand-turned finials, and subtle surface variations in the timber created by the manual bending process.

Place the stand near a main entryway or hallway corner against a plain wall to accentuate its sculptural silhouette. It provides practical vertical storage for coats, scarves, and umbrellas without overpowering smaller architectural spaces.

Dust the item regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid placing it near direct heat sources or damp environments. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood finish and maintain its luster.
