Honey Coloured Thonet Number 10905 Bentwood Hall Stand

1900 - 1920
For Sale by Tinker & Toad
Description

An elegant bentwood hall stand, believed to be Thonet's No. 10905 model, dating from the early 1900s. Executed in a particularly attractive honey-coloured finish, it is lighter than the more commonly encountered dark stained examples and has developed a lovely warm patina over the years. The wonderfully flowing bentwood frame is unmistakably Thonet in character, with sweeping organic lines, a central mirror, multiple coat hooks and a useful glove drawer beneath the rail. Although generous in function, it is slightly more compact than many bentwood hall stands of the period, making it an excellent choice where space is at a premium. As practical today as it was over a century ago, it provides ample hanging space while retaining the light, elegant appearance that has made Thonet's bentwood furniture so enduringly popular. Dimensions Height: 189cm Width: 93cm Depth: 30cm Condition Presented in good antique condition with age-related wear, marks and patina commensurate with its age and use. The mirror is in good order, and the drawer runs smoothly.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Thonet bentwood hall stand is a freestanding entryway furniture piece designed during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries using steam-bent beechwood to combine coat hooks, a mirror, and an umbrella holder in a unified frame.

These pieces were crafted using solid beechwood rods softened with high-pressure steam and forced into metal moulds to set into curved shapes, reducing the need for joinery and creating lightweight structures.

Authentic pieces often feature paper maker labels, embossed brand stamps under the base or frame, standard model identification numbers, and characteristic bentwood scrollwork.

Positioned near an entry door or hallway, the piece functions as functional coat and umbrella storage while providing an architectural focal point that complements minimal modern or traditional schemes.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth, keep the timber away from direct heat sources to prevent wood drying or cracking, and apply clear beeswax polish occasionally to preserve the honey varnish.
