Description

Woven in the Poltava region of Eastern Ukraine at the end of the 19th century, this is a lovely example of the kilim weaving tradition of Ukraine which stretches back centuries. The wool quality is very fine which gives the design a great crispness and clarity. The delicate colours and pretty floral design make it an ideal candidate for modern decoration. Note the fine weaving technique with so-called eccentric wefts very similar to the tapestry technique employed in Western Europe. Indeed these kilims were often used domestically as wall decoration. Professionally cleaned and in very good usable condition.
