Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Art Nouveau bed originates from the 1890 period and is constructed from a combination of walnut, mahogany, and fruitwood inlay in warm brown tones. The frame exhibits distinct floral marquetry, whiplash carving, curvilinear cresting, and contoured side rails, paired with a carved crest finial atop the headboard and curved feet at the base of the footboard. The polished wooden surface displays natural wood grain variations across the marquetry flowers. Measuring 162 cm high, 160 cm wide, and 200 cm deep, the bed accommodates a mattress 190 cm long by 150 cm wide positioned on the rails, with the foot end standing 82 cm tall. Suitable for placement in a traditional bedroom, the bed frame brings French Chateau style and organic forms into a domestic interior.

FAQs

Art Nouveau furniture, prominent from the 1890s to 1910, is characterised by sinuous lines, organic contours, and natural motifs such as plants, flowers, and insects. Designers emphasised craftsmanship, frequently employing techniques like intricate marquetry and hand-carved sweeping curves.

Cabinetmakers during this period typically utilised fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, oak, and beech for structural framing. Decorative panel surfaces often featured marquetry created with contrasting fruitwoods, mother-of-pearl, or brass inlays.

Authentic pieces feature continuous organic lines, asymmetrical natural forms, and high-quality joinery typical of late nineteenth and early twentieth-century cabinetmaking. Look for hand-cut marquetry veneers, carved whip-lash motifs, and period-appropriate wood wear.

Pair the bedstead with simple, crisp neutral bed linens to allow the intricate woodwork and marquetry to remain the focal point. Complement the piece with subtle organic lighting fixtures and understated modern bedside furniture to balance historical detail with contemporary minimalism.

Keep wooden furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer cracking and colour fading. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to preserve the original finish.
