A marble portrait plaque is a carved sculptural artwork, often executed in bas-relief within an oval or rectangular format, depicting a specific individual in profile.

Traditional plaques were hand-carved from solid blocks of white marble or alabaster using precision chisels, rasps, and abrasive stones to achieve fine facial detailing.

Authenticity is assessed by examining tool marks, the natural weathering and patina of the stone, mineral deposits, and the stylistic accuracy of the period dress and hair styling.

This piece works effectively when mounted securely on a neutral wall, placed on a heavy wooden mantelpiece, or displayed on a dedicated pedestal to highlight its sculptural form.

Maintenance requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Chemical cleaners, abrasive materials, and water should be avoided to prevent damage to the porous stone surface.
