Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XVI furniture, popular in late 18th-century France, is defined by rectilinear forms, symmetry, and classical Greek and Roman motifs. Moving away from the elaborate curves of the Rococo period, pieces feature straight lines, fluted columns, geometric panel framing, and understated brass mountings.

High-grade French commodes from this era commonly utilised dense mahogany, rosewood, or kingwood veneers over solid oak carcase construction. Surfaces were frequently topped with imported marble slabs or surrounded by cast brass galleries, accented with cast bronze or brass handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic period commodes display hand-cut dovetail joints inside drawers, hand-planed back and underside timbers, and period-accurate brass hardware. Many authentic pieces also feature maker stamps (estampes) impressed into the top frame timber by master cabinetmakers (ebenistes) belonging to the Parisian guild.

A neoclassical commode serves as a functional focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area. Modern styling involves balancing the dark mahogany wood tones by hanging large contemporary abstract art or a minimalist mirror above the unit, with subtle ceramic or glass accessories placed on top.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft microfibre cloth along the direction of the wood grain. Protect the timber from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting; apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, ensuring brass fittings are wiped clean with a dry cloth without harsh metal cleaners.
