Description

This fine Persian rug is from the coveted group referred to as 'Fereghan Sarouk'. The quality of the weaving is exceptional with fine wool and a high knot count. This piece has a very pleasing delicate palette which gives it a very harmonious appearance. The design is also very attractive, often referred to as the 'Paisley' design. In Persia, it is known as the boteh design with its origins in ancient India. In more recent times, the design appears on antique handwoven Kashmir shawls and latterly on machine made versions made in Paisley, Scotland and elsewhere. This rug is a beautiful rendered example of the design. In terms of its condition, it has survived the generations well retaining a thin finely clipped pile which is quite even throughout. There is a small old repair in the left border, and some minor loss of the guard stripes, which are now secured . Professionally cleaned. This rug would make a very decorative addition to many settings.
