A large charcoal on paper by the well known Lancashire artist John Virtue. Titled 4-Head of a woman and dated 1970.
In excellent condition. This John Virtue drawing has been in a private collection for years. A rare piece. This work is pre-1978 when Virtue ceased to work in colour, seeing it as ‘an unnecessary distraction’.John Virtue was born in Lancashire in 1947 and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1965-69. As well as being an honorary Professor of Fine Art at the University of Plymouth, Virtue was the National Gallery’s sixth associate artist 2003-2005.
