Fine South-west Persian Kilim, Circa 1900, 2.50m X 1.49m

1900 - 1920
Description

Woven by either the Qashqai or Luri tribal women of South-West Persia, this is an exceptional piece with fine wool and fine quality weaving. These tribal weavers were known for using strong colours and imagery in all their weavings and clothing, and this piece is no exception. The striking design manages to be both archaic and modern at the same time. The linked medallions with daring colours, hover over the bright saffron yellow field, and have been reduced to their minimal form. This contrasts with the colourful and detailed borders, obviously planned carefully by the artistic weaver. This lovely piece would make a great statement and would work equally well on either the floor or wall. The excellent original condition suggests that it may well have been made as a dowry piece and was only used sparingly on special occasions.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
