Description

Most unusual Georgian heavy copper round Gentleman's club pipe smoker's ashtray (I think !!!!). This is a beautifully made piece of early copper and is pretty heavy. Has a central cone part inside which I think is gunmetal with a turned rosewood round top part. Tinned inside. I can't think what else it could be. Very unusual and very nice.

Price includes UK postage costs.

Georgian metalware is characterised by functional utilitarian design, hand-hammered techniques, and the prominent use of copper, brass, and bronze during the 18th and early 19th centuries.

These items were predominantly constructed from hand-beaten sheet copper, frequently featuring brass fittings, turned wooden knobs, and weighted iron bases for stability.

Authenticity is determined by the presence of hand-hammered tool marks, period-appropriate patination, natural copper oxidisation, and traditional fabrication methods such as dovetail joints or hand-soldered seams.

This piece can be styled on a coffee table or mantelpiece to introduce warm metallic textures and historical contrast into contemporary living spaces.

Preservation requires dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding chemical polishes that strip the historic patina; store in a stable environment away from excess moisture.
