Description

A lovely pale blue border has been used on this tribal antique runner from the north-west region of Persia, known as Heriz. Heriz weavers produced wonderful runners, rugs and carpets all varying in style from geometric and primitive in design to sometimes more floral and with scrolling vines and well drawn flowers. This runner dating from around circa 1900-1910 uses a larger pattern of repeating geometric medallions in the background, with stylised boteh patterns afterwards on the dark blue background.

Great dyes from over 100 years ago, with varying colour change known as abrash, this is where a different batch of wool has been used to carry on weaving. Sometimes at a later date, as runners were woven on looms in the ground or when they have run out of a certain colour. This adds character and depth to a runner or rug, we love the well drawn leaf border design, a rare pale blue dye has been used too. Condition is good, with a nice wool pile showing, tiny areas of wear, but very minimal. Sides and fringes are all in tact and secure.
