Fine Persian Embroidered Cover, Circa 1850, 1.80m X 1.37. (71" X 54")

19th century
Description

The embroidered textiles produced in the Caspian Sea region around the city of Rasht in northern Persia are among the most undervalued textiles in the East. They were usually made to be used in domestic settings as covers, but some great pieces depicting portraits of important dignitaries and royalty are also known. Normally woven on a felt wool background, the embroidered work is often very ornate and accomplished. This piece is a fine example, dating to the mid-19th century. Jewel-like stars fill the field, framed by very pretty floral borders. The whole composition is extremely dynamic and very beautiful. There are a few old repairs in places, otherwise this wonderful piece has managed to survive in very good condition with little loss to the embroidery. The colouring is exquisite, from the bottle green colour in the background to the reds, blues greens and golds. A highly decorative textile which would liven up many settings.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
