Aaron Nejad Carpets and Rugs has dated this piece to the 1850s.
Normally woven on a felt wool background, the embroidered work is often very ornate and accomplished. This piece is a fine example, dating to the mid-19th century. Jewel-like stars fill the field, framed by very pretty floral borders. The whole composition is extremely dynamic and very beautiful. There are a few old repairs in places, otherwise this wonderful piece has managed to survive in very good condition with little loss to the embroidery. The colouring is exquisite, from the bottle green colour in the background to the reds, blues greens and golds. A highly decorative textile which would liven up many settings.
