Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian Scottish landscape painting frequently focused on natural topography, rural cottages, and dramatic Highland light. Artists of the Scottish School emphasised tonal depth and atmospheric conditions to depict countryside life.

Paintings from this era were commonly executed in oil or watercolour on canvas, board, or paper, housed within timber mouldings finished with real gold leaf gilding and protective mounts.

Authentic pieces often exhibit uniform surface age, period framing construction, traditional backing paper or wooden board fixings, and original maker plaques or signatures.

Position a framed landscape above a focal point such as a mantle or sideboard, pairing the work with neutral walls to highlight the deep tones and gilded frame.

Display artwork away from direct sunlight and fluctuating moisture levels to prevent discolouration, using a soft microfibre cloth to dust the gilded moulding gently.
