Antique Heriz Rug

1900 - 1920
Description

An unusual narrow antique Heriz rug with soft terracotta dyes and pale blues. Heriz were woven in the north west of Persia with hand spun wool and natural dyes. This rug has been woven with all natural dyes typical of this area from this period, around 1890-1900.

Antique Heriz rugs and carpets are know as the 'Iron rugs of Persia' as they are extremely tough being made using good quality wool in the north-west of Persia. Madder red and indigo blue dyes are the most common colours you associate with Heriz weavings.

Farnham Antique Carpets are specialists in antique decorative carpets, rugs and runners. Varying from antique tribal rugs woven in the Caucasus to classical Persian carpets dating from the mid 19th century to the early 20th century.

As members of the BADA - The British Antique Dealers Association and LAPADA - The Association of Art & Antique Dealers we adhere to strict guide lines as affiliated members and pride ourselves on maintaining its high standards. We exhibit at the BADA fair in Chelsea, London every March and the LAPADA Fair in Mayfair, London every September.
