Description

Dating to around 1890, this pretty rug was woven by the talented weavers of the Khamseh Tribe who migrated in southern Persia until the early 20th century when they started to settle in the towns and villages around the city of Shiraz. The field design is often seen on Khamseh rugs, the three medallions on a sapphire blue field surrounded by myriad geometric ornaments. However, the ivory border with repeating eight-pointed 'Lesghi' stars is both very attractive and unusual, and frames the composition beautifully. The size is a bonus, small and squarish, which allows for flexible use in many spaces. The warm colours and lovely jewel-like ornamentation would enhance many types of settings. Worn nicely to give it the desired lived-in look. Professionally cleaned in our workshops and ready to be used.
