Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug with Octagon Lattice Design, Circa 1890.

Description

Size: 5ft 1in x 4ft 3in (155 x 130cm).

Antique East Caucasian Shirvan rug possibly from the Baku region.

Circa 1890.

A very good Shirvan rug of almost square size, the rug has an all over octagon lattice design with each octagon containing a latch hook medallion. Of particular note is the man and lady in the top righthand corner of the field and also the single figure in the bottom left hand corner. This could well be a rug woven to celebrate a wedding or special family occasion. The border is of classic Caucasian design, the rug has an outstanding colour palette.

The rug is in excellent condition with even wear and medium pile.

The rug has been hand washed and ready for use or display.

The rug is suitable for normal domestic floor use.
