Grand Tour Bronze Hound Of Alcibiades On Red Marble

Fine quality, mid 19th Century Grand Tour patinated bronze model of the ''Hound of Alcibiades'' otherwise known as the ‘Molossian Hound’ or the ‘Jennings Dog’, on red marble. Based on a Roman copy in marble of a Hellenistic bronze statue of a large dog it was purchased by Henry Constantine Jennings in Rome in 1750s and now resides in the British Museum. Another version can be seen in the Vatican Museum Collection in Rome. Italy, circa 1850.
