Eighteenth-century provincial commodes typically feature serpentine or curved fronts, cabriole legs, and regional hand-carved motifs that reflect local craftsmanship outside of Paris.

These pieces were constructed using local timbers such as walnut or oak, joined with traditional hand-cut dovetails, and fitted with cast bronze or brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-planed surfaces, irregular dovetail joints, old tool marks, period-correct hardware, and the natural oxidisation of the timber over time.

Pairing historical wooden furniture with clean lines, modern lighting, and minimalist surrounding decor creates a balanced focal point that highlights the pieces craftsmanship.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels, keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight, and periodically apply microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the surface.
