Description

Recently acquired from a private collection, this lovely Tibetan rug has many fine features. The wool is soft and all the dyes are natural. Note the delightful greens in the borders, but also a lovely light blue most visible in the narrow inner guard stripe. The field design is very well balanced with the 3 medallions nicely spaced apart. The borders are exceptional., rich in symbolic ornamentation. The rug has survived in very good condition. The pile is good and even throughout except for some minor end at the top end. The selvages and ends are original and there are no signs of repairs. Having probably started life as a meditation rug, and then more recently nurtured in a private collection, this fine piece has obviously been looked after carefully for most of its life. Both decorative and highly collectible.
