An extremely intricate classical antique Mohtasham Kashan rug woven in Kashan around 1880-1890. These rugs were woven with the finest merino wool which is extremely soft to touch and helped the weavers produce these fine and beautifully detailed rugs. The array of beautiful flowers and larger leaf and flower design in the border is simply exquisite! Look for the amazing yellow and green dyes in the leaves in the border, a wonderful combination and rare to find.

In exceptional, as close to perfect condition, you will find a Mohtasham Kashan rug. A stunning and collectable antique rug, over 130 years old.

Kashan was a center of silk production since Safavid times and some of the best classical Persian silk rugs have been attributed to Kashan. At the end of the nineteenth century the weavers there began to produce high quality wool rugs and carpets as well, which continued the high standards of design and technique established in the classical era. The very best Kashan carpets are known as Mohtashan.
