A stunning midcentury abstract oil on board by the listed artist William Ernst Burwell (1911-1974). Beatifully painted with heavily applied textures of predominantly greens and reds. It is in its original gallery frame of painted softwood. We have obtained several of the artists works from his studio. Painting is unsigned but we can gurantee its authenticity. Condition is very good, the original frame has bumped corners and some marks but is generally good.The painter and stage designer William Ernst Burwell, FRSA was born in Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire. He studied at Hull College of Art and Brighton School of Art and showed at the RA, NEAC and elsewhere in Britain and overseas. From 1940-1946 he served with the Essex Regiment and was subsequently employed at Pinewood Studios.
