Description

Size: 1ft 10in x 1ft 3in (55 x 38cm).

Antique salt bag by the Sangtschuli nomads of South West Afghanistan.

Circa 1900/20.

This salt bag is tightly woven using weft float brocade technique, the design to the front and reverse are different. These bags were used by the nomads to carry rock salt, both for personal use and for their animals; a very precious commodity.

The salt bag is in excellent original condition and shows some signs of tribal use, it would make a wonderful wall hanging.
