Cotswold Oriental Rugs has dated this piece to the 1750s.
Antique Turkish Ghiordes prayer rug of classic design with multiple stripe borders.
Circa 1750.
The multiple stripe border design is very attractive, this is also found on some Kula rugs of a similar age. The panel around the mihrab is in clear indigo blue and is filled with carnations.

The rug is in fair condition with even wear, heavy in places and medium / low pile. There are a few scattered old re-weaves and repairs as one would expect with a rug of this age. Some of the dyes have corroded allowing the foundation to show in places. The sides and ends are slight reduced, the sides are re-bound and the ends secured.

The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. The rug is suitable for very light domestic use, but would make a superb wall hanging. A great piece of rug history, over 270 years old!
