Description

This 19th century Heriz carpets has several interesting features. As one would expect, it has hand spun wools and natural dyes. But the size is quite unusual: a small carpet, which would suit many modern decorative settings. The stylised floral repeat design in the field is very atypical in Heriz carpets, and reveals the influence of urban designs seen in nearby Tabriz carpets. Note also the unusual palette, the subtle colours ideal for furnishing. The grayish blue background is very decorative while the soft terracotta order is a perfect complement. The overall impression is elegant but not too formal. Cherished through the generations, this carpet has survived in good condition with only minimal signs of wear. The ends are slightly reduced and there are a few old repairs. Recently cleaned and ready for immediate use.
