Description

Belouch rugs are among the most interesting tribal weavings of Persia and Central Asia. Their limited palette and strong archaic patterns have captured the imagination of western scholars and collectors. Belouch prayers are particularly of interest as the designs often reveal deep metaphysical beliefs. This cute piece is a very good example. It has been woven with good wool and dyes, including camels' wool, and has several interesting design features. Note the stylised tree that runs through the field with rows of animals along the top and bottom, while there are unusual doubled-headed bird-like figures at the bottom of the mihrab, and in the corners. The attractive curled leaf border is another archaic feature. Generally in very good condition, There is some corrosion in the brown areas which is typical for a piece of this age.. This is a good collective Belouch rug which would also work well in many decorative settings.
