Farnham Antique Carpets has dated this piece to the 1920s.
Such a pretty decorative piece, we love the look of this traditional yet almost contemporary looking kilim.

Beautiful large scale flowers and flowing leaves and vines on this off-white background antique Bessarabian kilim. Woven around 1920 the faded dyes are truly delightful, full of various greens, pale blues, purple and pink tones and pinkish toned border. Such a pretty decorative piece, we love the look of this traditional yet almost contemporary looking kilim.

Washed by ourselves and both the ends and sides have been professionally tidied up by our workshop. Condition is very nice, with no holes or old reweaves. A few minor old marks which have improved via cleaning, there is a lot of dye change in the off-white, so often the darker areas are due to the dyes as-well. Supplied with our brilliant underlay, this thin antique kilim would be safe on the floor as it adds body and stops movement.

Bessarabian rugs and carpets are the commonly given name for rugs in pile and tapestry technique originating in Ukraine and Moldova during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Some scholars will classify flat-woven carpets as Bessarabian, while referring to knotted-pile carpets as Ukrainian. They are predominantly from an area corresponding to modern Bulgaria and Romania. Produced under late Ottoman rule, they stand right on the cusp of European and Oriental carpet weaving.
